Beautiful Demoiselle
These photos were taken in the New Forest at Burley Lawn and show the male on the left & female on the right. They prefer fast-flowing, clear streams.
Banded Demoiselle
Found beside slow-moving, mud-bottomed streams. Photos Titchfield Haven, 30 July 2003.
Emerald Damselfly
This male was taken at Cadnam Common in the New Forest on 20 June 2003.
Large Red Damselfly
This male was filmed in Greatdown Park, Bursledon on 9 June 2000.
Small Red Damselfly
This is found in wet heathland and bogs & is restricted to Southern England. These photos taken in the New Forest at Holmsley 0n 29 June 2003.
Southern Damselfly
This is becoming a scarce species. The photos were taken at Holmsley in the New Forest on 29 June 2003.
Azure Damselfly
Found in many areas, but prefers small, sheltered ponds. These photos were taken at Greatdown Park, Bursledon on 11 May 2001.
Common Blue Damselfly
Widespread and common. These photos were taken in Swanwick Nature Reserve on 19 June 2001.

Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly
This insect does not appear in Phil & Andy's report, but was identified in the Hamble area last year. Photo 10 August 2002.
Blue-tailed Vs Scarce Blue-tailed Damselflies
The diagnostic characteristic is the amount, and position, of the blue on the tail. The common is on the left, and the scarce on the right.
Red-eyed Damselfly
This male was photographed at Swanwick N.R. on 19 June 2001.
